Abby sits quietly in a chair by the bed, holding tightly to Sarah's hand. The others seemed to have turned for the better and were now both asleep. She reaches over to the bedside table with her free hand, and picks up the glass of plain water. She brings it close to Sarah, holding the straw gingerly at her lips.
"Please, honey. Drink it," Abby says in a whisper. The water was plain, and had been for a few days now. Proving her suspicions, the others had gotten better. Sarah, on the other hand, had far too much in her system and her body was giving up on her.
Sarah obediently drinks the water, taking it in very small sips to keep herself from coughing. When finished, she smiles almost sleepily at Abby. Her eyes begin to drift shut, staying closed for a moment or two before she has the energy to open them again."I'm tired, Abby."
"I know, Sarah. I know. Why don't you close your eyes and rest for a while. I'll stay right here with you." Abby smiles down at Sarah, doing her best to keep the pain out of her voice. She knows that if Sarah goes to sleep, she won't wake up. She fights with her urge to turn Sarah, knowing now that is the only way to keep her. Abby forces that thought from her mind. The one thing that Sarah had made Abby promise before she bound her was that when it was time for Sarah to move on, Abby would let her go.
"Okay," Sarah says. "Goodnight, Abby."
Abby smiles, brushing a stray hair from Sarah's face. "Goodnight, my Sarah."
Sarah smiles and closes her eyes for the last time.
Abby does just what she told Sarah she would do. She stays by her side until her breathing finally stops and her heart ceases to beat. Slowly, Abby stands and makes her way to the phone to make the funeral arrangements.
She grabs the phonebook and phone and sits down on the floor by Sarah's bed. Flipping through the pages to find a funeral home, Abby's eyes fall on an advertisement for Enchanted Investigations. She eyes the ad for a few minutes, then jots the address down on the back of her hand.
