The snapping of a twig was the only warning one received when walking alone at night on an empty park pathway. One’s first instinct is to freeze and turn toward the sound hoping against all hope that what you face is a squirrel or a fox. The former being highly unlikely at this time of night and the latter improbable being that foxes were not know to go anywhere near humans unless they were in fact Werefox’s, even then it was very unlikely still.
Since the Turn a human’s fear of the unknown predator had increased instead of diminishing because they now knew that true monsters lurked in the darkness. If one was lucky it would just be a passing animal and you would have nothing to worry about, but if one was unlucky just like she happened to be that night, one would come across an Inlander looking for trouble or worse yet…a snack. But luckily for her She wasn’t human herself.
